When Mathematics Level Four CAI (formerly Math 30 CAI) was first developed, it was seen as an alternative way of delivering quality instruction in mathematics to small schools. The computer as an interactive learning device is an attactive alternative to both educators and students. This is because it can illustrate abstract concepts and complex numerical relationships through the use of graphics and animation. Today, many Canadian schools, both large and small have begun to move toward a learner-centred learning environment. Mathematics Level Four CAI is well suited for use in such an environment.
Development teams are currently working on a number of other high school courses in mathematics. These include Math 13 (non-academic grade ten math), Math 20 (academic grade eleven math), Math 23 (non-academic grade eleven math) and Math 31 (academic grade twelve math - calculus). It is our intention to continue with the development, testing and delivery of the entire high school math curriculum. From there, we will most likely follow in the sciences and then expand into the junior secondary areas.
